November 2007

1 November - The new fire place is completed. I managed to sell the old one at the boaties market last weekend and the changeover didn't end up costing much at all. The old flu was overdue for replacement anyway and I'm extremely pleased with the project.

The Old...

and the New!!!

Just in time for summer. Ok so my timing wasn't ideal but I didn't want to wait till I was in the middle of a cold Tasmanian winter to find the old one gave up. Despite it being very hot and humid these past few days I couldn't resist firing it up. The result was fantastic. This heater is much cleaner and has a built in variable speed fan which allows me to actually tune the flame and flu. This eliminates any soot or inefficient burning and also allows the heater to compensate for blowback if it's gusty outside. It's nice to see the flame and I'm sure it will create a very cosy atmosphere in winter. The new heater also has a water coil so I can heat water. I haven't plumbed it into the water tank yet but will at some point.
