July 2008

10 July - This month's entry has been a bit slow since I've been flat out with work. I have to get my life back in order this month since it's been a hectic few weeks. Poor Cutty has been having to come to the office at night with me as some nights I've been working till 2am. She is so patient for a pup.

Last weekend I took Sunday off and was determined to give Cutty a nice day out. We walked out through the valley and to Breakfast Creek where there is a big park on the water. I'm not sure of the significance of the park but it looks very American with a name like "Lyndon Johnson Place" and the eagle looking down on the park.

Looking out across the water I saw a little yacht I knew. It was "Cooee" owned by Jill Knight who is a very well known Australian yachtie. Jill writes regular articles for the magazine "Cruising Helmsman".

Around the corner in the park there was a kid's playground and no kids. So Cutty had it all to herself. She ran around exploring all the sights.

This old tree had a door carved into it with a little brass door handle and lock. Cutty wasn't fooled.

It was a good day out for Cutty and a nice change from sitting in the office. I have to get out for a sail as soon as I can get through this pile of work.

15 July - I finally got my new wind generator delivered to the office. I bought the generator from Kiss Energy in trinidad www.kissenergy.com. I have looked at many wind generators and the Kiss is superior in lots of ways. Compared to the Air-x they are virtually silent. I also like the idea that they are not internally regulated (but can be regulated externally). I'll post some more on this when I get it installed.

The weather has been cooling down here in Brisbane and each morning I take Cutty for a good run. There is one area in particular which has beautiful soft grass and Cutty loves to run like a crazy dog. It's very steep and we do several hill sprints up and down the slope. When I get exhausted I get a stick for Cutty to fetch. She tires out pretty soon aftewards. After a good run she loves to lay down in the soft grass. Life is good when you're a dog.

I have a few major jobs to get done on the boat including installing the wind generator, but as soon as they are done I will take a few days off work and go sailing for a long weekend. I really want to get Cutty some sailing experience.
